Full-Time
AI Research Intern
Brussels, BE
About Us:
At Sentro, we believe decision intelligence should be available when and where it matters most. We build explainable AI systems that deliver insights directly into mission-critical workflows, helping users understand, decide, and act with confidence.
Our customers operate in complex, high-stakes environments: defense, cybersecurity, law enforcement, and privacy-sensitive industries. With explainability, security, and human-in-the-loop design at our core, Sentro helps these organizations maintain their edge without compromising transparency or trust.
We’re a lean, ambitious team with experience in AI, defense, product strategy, and secure system design. We are now hiring our first AI Research Engineer to help push the boundaries of multilingual, explainable, real-time AI.
The role
As a Research Intern in AI Assurance, you’ll explore how cutting-edge research in robustness, transparency, and reliability can be translated into systems trusted by mission-critical users. Your work will directly influence how we design, evaluate, and deploy high-performance AI systems with clear explanations and safety guarantees.
You'll help shape our approach to topics like evaluation under uncertainty, continual learning, feedback-based adaptation, and privacy-preserving reasoning—while contributing to R&D projects.
What you’ll do
Explore how recent advances in AI evaluation and robustness apply to real-world use cases involving time-sensitive, multilingual, and high-risk decisions.
Prototype new approaches for explainability, calibration, adversarial robustness, and confidence estimation.
Help design and run experiments that push our understanding of model behavior in operational contexts.
Work closely with Sentro’s research and product team to translate promising ideas into working features.
Summarize findings and contribute to internal documentation, experiments, and potentially joint publications.
You should apply if you
Are currently enrolled in a PhD (or strong MSc) in AI, machine learning, computer science, or a related STEM field.
Are proficient in Python, with experience using machine learning frameworks (e.g. PyTorch, JAX, scikit-learn).
Understand the challenges of evaluating AI in uncertain, real-world settings and are curious about explainability and privacy.
Have worked with one or more of the following: uncertainty quantification, robust evaluation, causality, feedback loops, continual learning, or secure ML.
Are comfortable working independently and communicating clearly across disciplines.
Bonus points if you have
A publication at a major conference (e.g. NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, AIES, or FAccT).
Experience building fast prototypes and iterating on new ideas.
Interest or background in dual-use technologies, defense, or security.
Familiarity with DIANA or EDF challenge domains (e.g. AI assurance, data security, multilingual NLP).
Why intern at Sentro?
Work at the intersection of research, product, and impact—your ideas won’t sit on a shelf.
Gain experience with emerging dual-use AI evaluation frameworks.
Join a team that values rigour, autonomy, and building for the real world.
Fully remote, flexible hours, and hands-on mentorship from experienced researchers and engineers.
You’ll be a core contributor from day one—not a coffee-fetcher.
How to Apply
If you are passionate about technology and excited about joining a forward-thinking company, we would love to hear from you! Please send your resume and a cover letter to careers@sentro.ai
